2. The insurance certificate. Ask for a certificate of general liability coverage — $1,000,000 per occurrence is the working standard — and whether your venue or property can be named as additional insured. For armed coverage, ask specifically about firearms liability; general liability excludes it.
3. W-2 officers or subcontractors. Ask who employs the officer who will stand at your gate. Some companies fill posts through subcontractors, which means the training, the supervision, and the liability belong to a company you never met. There are honest subcontracting arrangements, but you should know which one you are buying.
4. Pricing shown, or quote-gated. Security is priced per officer, per hour, with a minimum — there is no technical reason it cannot be shown. A company that requires a call before naming a number is selling the sales call.
